Rename hundreds of files, without touching each one by hand.
Rename takes a whole folder or any files you drop in, searches and replaces
across every name at once, applies a shared name with automatic numbering,
and renames everything safely — retrying files that are momentarily busy and never
overwriting one file with another.

What it does
Everything you'd want from a bulk rename — and the safety net most tools skip
Drop in a folder or a handful of files, set up the rule once, and let
Rename apply it to all of them in one pass.
Find & replace
Search and replace across every name at once
Type what to find and what to put instead, and it's applied to the whole
list in one click — no retyping a single filename. Nothing is renamed on disk until you
confirm, so you can keep adjusting until every name looks right.
Works across any number of files, folder or hand-picked
Combine with bulk naming and case changes before applying anything
A one-click reset brings every name back to the original
Bulk name + numbering
One name for all of them, numbered automatically
Give the whole batch a shared name and switch on numbering — prefix or
suffix, 1 to 3 digits — and every file gets its own number following the order of the list.
Drag & drop
A whole folder, or just the files you pick
Open an entire folder to list everything in it, or drag in — or manually
select — individual files from anywhere. Both add to the same working list without duplicating
anything already there.
Never overwrites, never gives up
The safety net most bulk-rename tools skip
If a file is briefly busy, Rename retries it on its own instead of just
failing. If the new name would collide with one that already exists, it adds a number instead
of overwriting anything. And if a file is open in another program, Rename tells you exactly
which one (by name) — and, if you ask it to, closes that program so the rename goes through.
It will never touch a program the system itself depends on.
Automatic retry on temporarily busy files
Automatic renumbering instead of overwriting an existing file
Identifies the program locking a file and can close it on request
Manual reorder
Move a file up or down, and the numbers follow
Nudge any file up or down the list with one click. Since automatic
numbering always follows the list's current order, reordering first is how you control exactly
which file gets which number.
Case, in one click
UPPERCASE, lowercase or Title Case
Switch the case of every name in the list with a single click — no
retyping. Combine it with find & replace or bulk naming in any order before you apply
anything.
Saved templates
Save a naming setup once, reuse it in one click
Dial in a find & replace pair plus a bulk name and numbering style
that works for a kind of file you rename often, and save it as a named template — the same idea
as WaterClean's recipes. Next time, apply it instantly instead of typing it all again.
Real undo
Undo means undo — the file on disk, not just a text field
Only renames that were actually applied enter the undo history — up to
the last 50. Undoing renames the file back to what it was called before, for real, the same safe
way as any other rename.
